Vision for Education

The Church of England rearticulated its vision for education in Autumn 2016 in its Church of England Vision for Education: Deeply Christian, Serving the Common Good.

The vision is deeply Christian, with the promise by Jesus of ‘life in all its fullness’ at its heart.

This is worked out theologically and educationally through four basic elements which permeate our vision for education: wisdom, hope, community and dignity.

The vision, in line with the Church of England’s role as the established Church, is for the common good of the whole human community and its environment, whether national, regional or local. It is hospitable to diversity, respects freedom of religion and belief, and encourages others to contribute from the depths of their own traditions and understandings.

Thinking Governance embeds many of the Vision’s key elements within the card set in Module 1. In that way, the key aspects of the Vision are present in Thinking Governance right from the outset, and they remain in the programme, to the extent that governors wish them to.
